Day 1 RET summer training

Day 1

Hello, my name is Jose Guerrero and I teach at RL Turner high school in Carrollton, TX. I teach Biology, AP Biology, Biotechnology Engineering, and a T-STEM Student Racing Challenge course (NASCAR Student Racing Challenge). I have 6 years of teaching experience, all of which in a T-STEM New Tech High School named METSA. Our school uses the PBL methodology as a means to engage students. I have 2 wonderful and joyful boys. I am working on MAT through UTD and am only two courses away from receiving my degree. Pretty excited!

Fern Edwards- In the past six years I have taught IPC, On-level Chemistry, PAP Chemistry & AP Chemistry.  Currently I teach On-level and PAP Chemistry at Heritage High School in the Frisco Independent school district. I have two boys, who are 4 and 10. I have absolutely no background in programming or electronics so I am very excited to be part of this RET experience.

We will be working with Dr. Yan Wan who is an assistant professor at UNT and Vardham Sheth, a graduate student in the Department of Electrical Engineering.

Program expectations: We are expected to present our project status at midterm, then a final presentation at the conclusion of our training; create a 10-15 page research report with an expectation for publish; a functional prototype; a poster; and a lesson plan which we are expected to implement in our classrooms.

A couple block diagrams over the major components to our control system. These were derived from our mentors.
